This island is aptly named: Ua Pou means "The Pillars". This crown of volcanic spires can be seen all around the island; here Second Wind is at anchor at Hakahetau. |
When we hiked inland, jungle foliage with a pillar backdrop was a common sight. |
Another common sight were walls and platforms of large boulders, remnants of the many people who used to live in the valleys; this is the Tetahuna archaeological site. |
This hike ended at Manfred Cascade, a delightful place for a picnic and a refreshing dip! |
I was entranced by the shifting clouds and light on the pillars... |
