NZ Tidbits

ON THE INSIDE
Would you like to wear black?

Or black?
NZ's apparel color of choice,
inspired by the All-Black sports teams

Forget burgers!
The go-to food is a savory pie,
whether it's takeout (available absolutely everywhere)
or in grocery stores to heat at home

ON THE OUTSIDE

NZ's icon: ferns,

ferns,
and more ferns

Glowworms create magic in caves and around creeks
(hard to capture in a photograph, but imagine being surrounded by hundreds of tiny points of light)

ON THE ARTSY SIDE

The Whangarei Barnacle Pluckers in action

aka a bunch of aging cruisers playing folk and jazz standards at the downtown dock
(they roped in a violinist and Art as Mr. Tambourine Man)

We've enjoyed Kathy Mortimer's work
since we first met her at an artist's market in November 2015.
Thanks to Christmas gifts from our dads,
she created these panels for us...

...using sand we collected at two of our favorite NZ anchorages

High school students performing at a Kapa Haka Festival
of traditional Maori songs and chants

Such passion from both performers and audience!
