First stop: Morro Bay

Ten days after leaving Port Angeles and nine days nonstop from Neah Bay, we made our first landfall at Morro Bay CA. Out of the morning fog, a whole new world emerged: huge Morro Rock, the strong odor of sea lions, flocks of pelicans, and bare dry dirt. For the first time (though not the last), we were acutely aware of having truly traveled...

We ended up staying a few nights at the Morro Bay Yacht Club: extremely friendly, very reasonably priced, and conveniently located. We got to be part of their Friday night Happy Hour and watch their weekend races, as well as get some maintenance and business work done. We enjoyed meeting other cruisers (all with plenty of entertaining stories to swap), having lunch with Lyle & Mendi Stubson, and picking up some fresh meat and produce (no more tuna!).

As luck would have it, we happened to be there the weekend of Morro Bay's Avocado & Margarita Festival--so of course, we purchased avocados and margaritas!
(and then had to go back to the store to get our own margarita makings before we left town)

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...
